Getting rid of the names in the DMG

Wizards just got rid of Bigby and Leomund and such from all the spells in the Players Handbook.

Are they going to do the same with the magic items in the DMG?
Is there going to be no more Heward for the Haversack, and is poor Kwalish going to lose his Apparatus.

I was just wondering.

I'm pretty sure that the names are staying but because they're owned by wizards thrird party publishers can't use them. I could be wrong thought, that's just how I understood it.

They only removed them for the SRD. I dont see them altering them in future printings of the PHB as this would require more than just fixing a typo or misprint. The entire layout of the spells section would have to be redone.

And I am betting that they remove the names for the magic items as well when they are officially released in the SRD.

Well at least few people will try to use Vecna's hand or Eye... not that they would anyway. Still sucks though they took out the spell names.

Agreed. But Clark has solved this problem for d20 publishers. Check the Necromancer Games site for details.

I like Clark's idea, even though Mark's has SOME merit.
