Getting that AC high, high, high!

I play a Sorcerer/Paladin/Abjurant Champion combo, and I think Abjurant Champion should be mentioned when talking high AC ... if you use the Shield / Luminous Armor (not even Greater Luminous Armor) combo, you can get a basic AC of 29 wearing nothing but your clothes, and without a Dex modifier. Add deflection AC and sacred AC bonuses, Dex or dodge, and the aforementioned Combat Expertise, plus other random helpful items ... you'll be inching your way towards AC 40. My current AC against evil creatures (CL 12) is 37, and that's with a low Dex bonus & nothing above +2 deflection, so I've got room to grow.
