Ghost touch weapons & incorporeal barriers

Devin Firebrand

First Post
I'm setting up a situation for my players where they'll be entering an area that has a number of incorporeal undead imprisoned within it. The incorporeals are trapped by an effect that acts like a wall does to normal creatures (i.e. they can't just go through it) though normal creatures can move through it like it's not there.
A couple characters in the party have ghost touch weapons, I'm curious if it makes sense for the weapons to get stopped at the barrier since they exist simultaneously on the corporeal and incorporeal "planes".

Any thoughts/opinions/suggestions?

Recalling from 3.0: ghost touch weapons are supposed to act in whatever form would be most advantageous at the time. That to me would mean that if there is a barrier that prevents incorporeal things from passing, the ghost touch weapon would act as corporeal. However, I would rule in a consistent fashion such that if the players tried to use the barrier as a defense then the ghost touch weapon was 100% corporeal so that if it bypassed the barrier, it could not effect the incorporeal undead.

Thanks for the feedback.
I think I can have some fun with that, players get into area that has a number of incorporeal obstacles along with some Shades. Players without ghost touch weapons don't notice anything odd (aside from the normal 50% miss chance), the players with ghost touch weapons start wondering what the hell their weapons keep getting hung up on when they attack. <ewg>
