Description:

What if ghosts aren't really supernatural concepts, but creatures with their own biology? And if ghosts have their own biology, then using scientific principals, they can be thwarted - if not destroyed, at least captured. And if ghosts can be captured...well, then somebody can get rich doing it. Enter the Ghostbusters. Hobbled together by a group of misfit scientists, they attempted to use parapsychology for profit and, at least some of the time, succeeded.

In the 80s, Ghostbusting was a novelty. The end of the world brought on a lot of supernatural phenomena and, thanks to a lot of strange science and the Ghostbusters, was narrowly averted. By the end of the 80s, Ghostbusters were dealing less with the supernatural and more with problems like New York "not giving off a good vibe." The Ghostbusters were called upon again to do something about it and they moved pieces of NY's monuments to do it.

Life as a Ghostbuster is never predictable. The wax and wane of supernatural activity seems to vary without rhyme or reason - the 80s was rife with supernatural phenomena but there were entire years that were actually quite boring. At least, for a Ghostbuster.

As the world changed, so too did the nature of Ghostbusting. With a heightened awareness for global terrorism, the psychic energy matrix of the Earth is boiling with anger, fear, and hate - ghosts are more common than ever before. And what do you need when the world is gripped in fear and suspicious of everything that moves? You need a Ghostbuster: a man or woman who, backed by nuclear weapons, blasts a stream of barely harnessed energy at whatever you're afraid of, and do it with a smile and a small service fee.

Ghostbusters: Who Ya Gonna Call? is a d20 Modern RPG supplement that contains: 5 new allegiances, 7 new occupations, one advanced class (the elite Ghostbuster), new uses for old skills, 2 new feats, a bevy of new weapons and equipment (including proton packs and ghost traps), action point rules, planar travel, and monster classification.

Thanks. :)

There's a lot more I'd like to do, but part of the problem is that I don't remember all the episodes that well. You can actually view EVERY Real Ghostbusters episode at http://www.ghostbusters.net, but it's a very small resolution and it takes a lot of time.

I realized that 90% of the monsters could either be directly lifted out of the d20 Fantasy SRD and d20 Modern SRD, or could be created using the ghost template and animated object rules. So I decided to just get the book out there rather than wait while I try to come up with stats for Samhaine, the Boogeyman, Sandman, etc.

Just about every monster that's in D&D has shown up in Ghostbusters as well as a bunch from Call of Cthulhu -- and I mean the real thing, not silly knockoffs. I still don't understand how that worked copyright-wise, but they had at least three episodes, one in which the Ghostbusters took on Cthluhu himself.

Ahhh, the good old days.

So I guess I'm just pointing out that you can use Ghostbusters with the Call of Cthulhu game, or use Call of Cthulhu monsters in a d20 Modern Ghostbusters ame, depending on your preference.

Dude, you rock! This sounds awesome! I just started to go through it, but I
wanted to give you a quick FYI - you must have done a find/replace on Evil
Dead when you made it, because your footers say "Ghostbusters: Swallow This!"

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Gah! Thought I caught that. Just updated it and am uploading it now. It will be fixed in ten minutes.

Thanks!

This is awesome. I think I'm gonna run a Ghostbuster/The Evil Dead hybrid game with this and your other Evil Dead: Swallow This supplement.
One question though: where are the ectoplasm shooters from Ghostbusters II?

As always Talien, your work amazes me. The attention to detail here is nothing short of incredible, and the way the timeline and campaign introduction are laid out breathe new life into this great campaign about hunting the dead.

By the way, where do you find the people who help you out with these campaign specifics?

I think the reasoning behind how they were able to do that involves the copyrights limiting exactly how Cthulhu is depicted. IIRC, Chaosium, for example, holds the copyright to Cthulhu in RPGs, and August Derleth's publishing company (can't recall its name) has the copyright for stories involving Cthulhu, but no one has the copyright on Cthulhu cartoons, so the Great Old One can be depicted there.
