Giant ants ate my characters!

I played in a group once where the DM killed the party with what he refereed to as "giant ants". Of course, it turned out, after he showed us the monster manual, that they were actually formian ants.

Yeah, we still joke about that.

I almost TPK'd my group last night with giant frogs. I found that really funny. We're playing the Temple of Elemental Evil, so I figure the encounters are only going to get harder from here on in.

I had my giant frogs in a pool of water at the bottom of a muddy slope. I required balance checks, DC 5 to take an action (only one check per round, even if taking two actions). And the party got slaughtered. The two clerics had -7 and -9 on their checks (twin brothers with bad DEXs and heavy armor) and they nearly drown in 3 feet of water trying to whack those frogs.

The monk killed all of the frogs, as he couldn't fail the check if he tried.
