Giant Spider Web in Texas

Heh. Well, it could be worse. I have a real problem with spiders, yes, but I have a major problem--probably bordering on a full-fledged phobia--with roaches. :heh: Not the tiny brown ones, but the big honkin' "In the dark, I mistook it for a small cat" wood roaches.

You should head on down to New Orleans. The big fat roaches there that come out of the steam tunnels at night have no fear and they fly pretty well. Usually right at your head.

figures...

I had a minor nightmare (daymare? I work graveyard :p) after reading that giant-web article the other day :p

I've always been fascinated (from a safe distance) with Bird-Eaters (if I rememebr, I'll hunt a link to pic later).

edit: found a site that has a pic of one the size of a dinner-plate

How do I throw the pic into thread? o.0

Yeah, my cats have enjoyed tangling with those since we moved to Texas. I think they're in favor--mice have never really made a full meal for them, but they don't seem to be able to finish these Texas-sized cockroaches, 'cause I keep finding their leftovers. :\

Why? There's fewer skeeters now.

I can see the new tourism brochures now. "Come visit the great state of Texas: Now with 0.0001% fewer mosquitoes! And spiderwebs the size of a small town!"

Judging by the responses on this thread, this is probably a bad time to say that I would like to go visit that...it looks awesome.

I wish I could say I hadn't thought about it. Holiday tomorrow ... Lake Tawakoni State Park is only about two hours from here ... Fun for the whole family! Except my wife, who will probably divorce me if I even mention it. :uhoh:

Just out of curiousity, is "Sam's Town" named for Sam Houston of the Alamo?

Yup, you got it.

I'm Canadian, so I don't know. I'm just curious.
Sam Houston was not at the Alamo (he ordered it abandoned but Col. Travis refused and the 180 men there fought to the death against the 3,000 man Mexican force).

Sam Houston defeated the Mexican army at the battle of San Jacinto, which is near present day Houston, Texas.
