Githyanki Giant Series Duskblade

My group is 14th level and about to start Hall of the Fire Giant King. I am thinking about using Githyanki to represent that other race (no spoiler here) for something different. This will also allow me to lead into the Dungeon 100 adventure about the Githyanki Lich Queen. :D

I was thinking about using Duskblade for all the Kith’rak (Captains) and maybe some of the lower level guys.

Do you think the Duskblade represents the old style fighter/mage Githyanki pretty well?

Hey, that's pretty cool. I like the idea of using the Githyanki here for something different. Duskblade is OK. I also wouldn't hesitate to use the Eldritch Knight. (I've long wanted to use the mage blade from Arcana Evolved as a githyanki fighter/mage, what with the class' focus on a single blade and the githyanki's focus on their own individual silver sword.)

I'm a big fan of this module series (and in particular the one after it), but changing it all to fit Githyanki with a trip to the Astral and a confrontation with the lich queen sounds awesome.

I actually did this in my campaign. All my players are veterans and knew the Giants and following series really well. I had the Githyanki purposely setting up the other race to start a war. Thats when they planned to invade. My players were so confident they knew what was going on, that when they discovered I had OMG changed the module!!1!!11!!!1 it took them weeks to recover.

From the Fire giant halls I had them travel to the astral fortress of Ruun-khazi (also a Dungeon adventure) and then onto fighting Vlaakith in her castle.

What issue is the fortress of Ruun-khazi in?

If you happen to know, what level had they reached when they finished off the Fire Giants?

Duskblade works great for fighter/mages.. except those native to the Astral Plane. Duskblades have a lot of swift spells that're not very powerful, which on the Astral is a disadvantage because all spells are already swift. I think that githyanki would be less likely to be duskblades unless they spent practically no time on their home plane.

Actually that would support the development of a duskblade tradition… if you could swift cast spells it would be relatively simple to swift-cast into a weapon.

As the DM there is no real chance that the monsters won’t be strong enough: you can always change things.
In particular you’re concerned about the drop in power level (I wouldn’t be but) you can always just say “gith dustblades casting in the Astral get +1 caster level” or something similar.

Maybe I will just use the Duskblades for the lower level guys, then use more fighter/wizard/eldritch knights for the higher level.

Here is what the party consists of:

--Human Wizard 14
--Gold Dwarf Cleric 14
--Strongheart Halfling Ranger/Order of the Bow Initiate 6/8
--Dragon Shaman 14 (new player coming in, good chance to play test some new stuff)
--Shield Dwarf Fighter/Dwarven Defender 8/6
--and a 6th character, still waiting on the player to figure out what he wants. His grey dwarf monk was killed by the final bad guy at the end of the 2nd module. His character was brought back to life, but was too ashamed to go on (ie.. the player was tired of playing a monk).
