You could probably think outside the box on this one. Even look into some already existing items and consider them to have a connection.

For example Cape of the Montebank lets you Dimension Door one time per day. Considering your are talking about creatures native to the Astral Realm it is possible they may have developed this item to allow them to use its effect for quick travel on Prime Planes. Effectively bypassing space by utilizing Astral Space to travel through then back out. This item could, dimensionally speaking, connect two colored pools that access the same Prime Plane, and thus allowing its user to move through them in a moments amount of time.

Well, have a go at some X/day items duplicating the Gith's racial powers, such as Inertial Armor or Plane Shift. Items emulating the gith's boni and penalties to stats would fit, too.
 

This was the loot list for a number of githyanki encounters in a high-level game. Hope it inspires some ideas. Some of the notes are just fragmentary, unfortunately.

helmet of intellect (+4 int, +4 deflection)

+1 dagger of magic piercing (ignores magic as if surrounded by an antimagic shell.)
Githyanki leechbow +4, Dissipator: grants strength of my enemy enhanced to +16, and is anti-ectoplasmic
Coin/gem armor +1, linked (communicate with others); made out of coins and gems that are attached to one another.
Psicrown of the healthy champion: body adjustment, evade burst, force screen, inertial armor, mental barrier. 140 pp left in it. Intelligent and whiny, terrified of being used.
Third eye: aware (+10 spot checks)
Cloak of Concealing Thought: +5 resistance to saves, improved invisibility once per day for 10 rounds.
+5 linked gem-studded leather armor made from tanned githzerai skin (+10 AC)
Liquid silver quarterstaff (of parrying): each side is a +4 bodyfeeder (crit dmg = temp hp) and has collision (+5 dmg)
