Githzerai ECL

OK, couldn't find it in either the 3.0 PsiHB or the web enhancements, and don't yet have the 3.5 MM. So, what's the ECL of a Githzerai? Anyone?

In the 3.5 MM, githzerai have are LA +2. Since they are 1 HD creatures, their first class level can replace their racial HD, meaning a 1st-level githzerai is treated as a 3rd-level character.

3.0 MotP also mentions it at Level Adjustment +2. It sorta should be noted that Psionic and Non-Psionic Githzerai are a bit different (in 3.0 ruleset).

They lose a feat (Inertial Armor is moved to a 'Special' ability for MotP), but they gain two attack/defense modes, which may net the character an effective '+1 feat' (over the non-psionic version) if you're using Resculpt Mind. They have a differences in their powers versus the spells (the spells are typically better however).

In general, until the revised PsiHB comes out, if you're running a 3.5 campaign, I would use those stats (and treat them as non-psionic). The LA may be different for a psionic version (although I suspect the LA will be the same).

They make INSANE monks. Six dex, two wisdom, and a nigh-on permanent mage armour? Sign me up for an AC 26 3rd level character :)

With 8+Con mod hit points, don't forget to have a backup ready :)

Should be noted that the 3.5 Githzerai have different spell-like abilities than the PsiHB Githzerai: Daze, featherfall, shatter, and eventually plane shift in 3.5 as opposed to Combat prescience, far punch, and featherfall.

Yeah, that's the big downer. Of course, it gets less of a problem every level. Just take improved toughness or similar and try and even it out over time.

Of course, at that level, monks only have 22 or so hitpoints anyway :)

It's not really a problem considering how much points you can put into CON with that Dex +6 still giving you a nice AC.
