D&D General give me your ideas for plant people.

interesting what could you do with pine trees?
Well, treants is sort of THE go-to 'tree person'. Outside of that, I'd look at interesting enviroments to draw from. And, well, with pine trees? Pine barrens. Give them a spookier vibe than your usual treant. Connection to the realms outside ours. Sometimes things that should not be just, hang out and chill with them, and that's just a part of life. They're not evil, just they're from a place where the walls are thinner

that is at least an interesting idea

Sources of inspiration:

In the original The Thing, the alien was a strong, tough, intelligent, bipedal carnivorous plant. Not very playable. See also the Doctor Who episode, Seeds of Doom. And Day of The Triffids.

DC Comics has Poison Ivy, The Floronic Man, and Swamp Thing. (I actually modeled a Geomancer after him.)

In one homebrew, I’ve also used Awakened trees (NPCs) and elves who used ritual magic to become “planty” (PCs)- in game terms the elves had a template.

Do you have a feel for how alien or familiar you want them to be? Or what kind of plant, or environment you want them to live in?

a combination of plants as no one type of real plant fits the description, alien but still playable by players.
the environment I have no idea.

Plants don't move in nature. Obviously that's a nonstarter for a race that goes adventuring, but they could be more homebodies than other races (literally having to uproot themselves).
thats not entirely true, the south American Cashapona (walking palm) has a cluster of stilt roots and by sending out a new root can move its location to find better light. Banana plants have also been seen to move 40cms via lateral shoots.

it is a painfully slow mode of movement but its still a naturally evolved ‘walk’, for a fantasy species the root growth just needs to be instantaneous ….

Algoids are cool
Wood woads are also cool
