Give the gift of D&D

I doubt that Toys for Tots would turn down the D&D Basic Game, considering that the Marine Corps were involved in the foundation of that particular charity. From my experience, Toys for Tots excepts about anything, other than toy weapons.

This is a great idea. I was going to do a shopping run for toys to donate to the local Family and Children Services office Friday (something I do every year for the little ones who are stuck in foster care at Christmas), and I'm going to make sure I throw in at least one Basic Set - with a note asking them to make sure a kid with an active imagination gets it.

Not trying to be snarky Campbell, but I think you inadvertently said the opposite of what you meant. :)

Doing just a little research into the charity organization is a good idea no matter what you are donating and what the cause is. I'm not saying you shouldn't donate, but if you are donating you should be aware how much of your donation is being used for what.

This is a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion! I am going this weekend to donate to a family my office is supporting- this is a good gift idea- a bit more of myself (via my interests). Very cool.

Hmm... I remember seeing another donation drop-box nearby... maybe I will pick up two! :)

It's alright BSF, no snarkiness noted. To tell the the truth, I haven't dealt with many charities, but I've never had any problems with Toys for Tots.

You guys might as well just start these poor kids on a crack habit right now. Giving them D&D books for free is like a drug dealer giving you your first free fix. These kids are low income already, and when they become addicted to D&D like I'm sure they will, we'll see these kids on street corners selling off stolen vcr's to earn money for next months new WotC products. If they get addicted to drugs instead of D&D, it'll be cheaper for them in the long run. Please, think about the kids.

Campbell, I was correcting your apparent error with excepts/accepts. By using excepts, you implied that Toys for Tots did not accept any toy that wasn't a weapon. :D

The rest of my post was intended as a general statement. I have never heard anything bad about Toys for Tots either, but there are some charities out there that could be much more efficient. They have wonderful intentions, but an inefficient distribution structure. If you are going to donate something, it is a worthwhile investment to spend a little bit of time so you understand how your donation will be used.

I wasn't aware of my foible, even after you initially pointed it out. After preparing a lengthy hand out for my Sunday game, my eyes began to rust over. Additionally, I appreciate your charitable advice.
