Gleemax Q&A

Ok, call me a spammer or hijacker, but I cannot stay silent on this one...You guys are killing me by listing off features that Obsidian Portal already has.

Yeah, a personal area would be great! Imagine if you and a group of friends started a campaign, and the DM gets a small message board linked from his profile that he could post messages, notes, synopses, campaign world info etc. and players could talk and post character info. Wouldn't need to be a big board. Obviously there is a lot of stuff missing, so I'm not sure how feasible that would be.

That's the whole point of OP.

Website hotlinks so people can click your name/avatar and see your "public" characters in the Character Creator database? (World of Warcraft's online Armory program is probably the ideal here, although I understand this might be a HUGE amount of work.)

Your characters are linked from your profile, but more importantly, they're easy to link from blog postings and wiki pages, making it easy to weave the links into the storyline.

I'm not sure what he'd want in a more personal area, but I'd like a section/page that allows me to set up announcements to my group, notes about the next session, set up calendar appointments (maybe this is already possible) for our gaming sessions, reminders for players, DM, etc.

We're working on enhancing this right now, but it's already pretty easy to use the blog or wiki for this.

RSS feeds. I can't follow the blogs right now because it's such a pain to dig through the site to them. A simple RSS for each blog would be a godsend.

Been there on OP since the start. Seriously, not having an RSS feed is unforgivable for a blogging system. They're so easy to make from a programming standpoint that it takes like 10 minutes max to write the code.

And the list goes on from there...

*Sigh* If only I had the marketing budget of WoTC, then I could prove to everyone just how handily OP trounces Gleemax when it comes to campaign blogging. Instead, I'm relegated to lurking on forums and hoping that people eventually get the message by word of mouth.

Don't take my word for it, just check out some of the awesome campaigns (not mine...) already there:
Seven Secrets
Accretion Gospel
Sins of the Father
A Deadly Affair
5 Years Gone

Well, to me it looks like OP is *just* for blogging campaigns. Gleemax is for general gaming blogging. If someone wants to review a new sourcebook, they can post it. If they want to rant about the state of the industry, they can post it.

If OP is supposed to be as open as that, then you should do something to make it obvious, because at a quick glance it certainly isn't.

Gleemax, when completed, is meant to be a social networking website fine-tuned for all gamers. The site will include forums, blogs, wikis, online game portals and features typical of social networking websites.

Gleemax needs to focus on its core features. If it's meant to be a social networking site for gamers, it needs to have detailed profiles, a robust search function, a list of friends and a way to talk to friends.

As Fobok said, Gleemax is for anything you want to use it for - you can blog about anything you want (and use the other features it includes, too).

It could be noted that you have been advertising on Gleemax itself, and on this thread about Gleemax, and that no one has stopped you from doing so. ;)

I think it is far too late to reinvent Gleemax as a proper Web 2.0 site, with AJAX and modern CSS. And because WotC won't want to spend money to reinvent Gleemax immediately after launch, we're going to be stuck with it for years.

Yeah, you've got me there. We're trying to focus on one thing - campaign blogging and overall campaign management. Still, lots of people are trying to use Gleemax for this very thing, and it is sorely lacking in that category. And, from the comments I've seen here, lots more people are looking for that ability.

Edited for typo.
