Gltterdust / Ogre Mage

if i had it appear originally as an hydra, (ie they donty klnow its an ogre mage) it would freak the party out somewhat wouldnt it? they have good knowledge skills so would likely realise the issues they may have.

no one has sunder (even though they dont really need it)

ta for input

A dire bat has 4HD, a high AC, and can fly, and has blindsense (not blindsight!). For defensive purposes, perhaps not bad.

I thought Blindsense was an extraordinary ability and thus you don't gain it when you polymorph into that form, thus you end up as blind as a bat.

Quite right, my bad! You don't gain special abilities, so the dire bat form is only useful for it's AC and mobility.

it flew in polymorphed as a hydra and invisible and cast cone of cold at party
rolled rubbish damaged (22)
it got glitterdusted and failed with its +3 will save and got shot lots to only 2 hp left b4 it tried to use darkness to cover its escape. it died

Use Rich Burlew's Polymorph rules.

Wonderful stuff. For example, why would you polymorph into an owl if, by Normal Polymorph RAW, you don't get lowlight vision? Same question with a wolf and scent. With his rules, you won't get regeneration with a troll, but you will get DV, LLV, and Scent.

Think about it like this: If you are taking a creatures form, you are taking on all of its physical attributes. Your eyeballs would change to that of a trolls, which is where it gets its DV and LLV. Same with olfactory sensors and the Scent ability. Regeneration, although present IRL creatures such as starfish, is obviously beyond normal physical ability in a troll (read: magical), and therefore not a physical atttribute.
