Gluing DDMs - which glue?

I need to glue some minis that are made like the D&D Minis (they're actually LotR CMG minis) to GW plastic bases. I have a feeling that poly cement, i.e. plastic glue, won't work well with the rubbery minis. Am I right?

If so, what should I use instead? I don't like cyanoacrylate (super glue, Crazy Glue, Zap-a-Gap etc). What about epoxy?

What do the manufacturers use? I wish I knew because separating one of those minis from its base is hard (and literally) bloody work. :\

Epoxy would give you a solid bond, but zap-a-gap will work just fine.

Plastic cement works by melding the plastic together by slightly melting each piece - I'm not sure how it would work with the softer D&D plastics.

Hey Zander,
Pogre is pretty much right on.
"Model" glue is not really suitable.

Zap -a- Gap or similar glue will work well.

The MFG is probably using an epoxy, so that would work if you want it to be super solid.

I've also used hot glue from a glue gun when putting mini's of this kind onto a base. After all of the basing techniques are done, it hold perfeclty well. Because it gives a little, the mini pops off instead of breaking under stress. I trim the glue and put it on again.

I hope that helps.
Game ON!

Thanks pogre & nyrfherdr.

I have a feeling that they used epoxy. When I was removing the bases, the adhesive cracked a bit just like when you break epoxy.

I've decided to glue them using epoxy to plasti-board, not GW bases, the stuff model railway enthusiasts use for textured flooring/walls. It's thinner than GW bases (less than 1mm) and some of the minis already have integral bases that would make them too high on conventional bases. Some of the integral bases are too small to keep the figure balances however which it why I need to supplement them. At the moment, my LotR elf falls over so much, he's not so much Legolas as 'legless'. :)
