GM'S DAY 2005 One Month to go!!

Hey everyone,
One month left to go before 03/04/05. What are you doing for GM(s) this March 4th? How are you going to thank them for all the hard work they have put in over the past year to make sure that you have a great night every week or so.

Buying them a big monster mini?
And painting it?
Giving them a gift voucher for the DMGII? (It doesn't come out till July)
Or a new Monster Manual?

Or are you eschewing the commercial approach and making them a big roast dinner?
And a massage?!
Or a lump of coal ?

I'm ordering some painted miniatures from Blue Table. Some bigguns. Only because I am crap at painting minis.

Looking forward to it.

Oh, and here's a link for those who don't know what I'm talking about.

I nearly forgot about GM's Day, so thanks for reminding me ;)

Seeing that I'm the GM of my group, I can only tell you what I'd like:
Something - seeing that my players don't care about GM's Day... or the GM, for that matter ;)

But they'll be in for some nasty surprises if the third GM's Day in a row passes without them doing anything.

Anyway, if I even had a GM, I'd give him one of these (depending on his/her style or needs):
- $10 deposit on RPGNow.com
- a handpainted miniature
- one blister of D&D Miniatures
- a novel (fitting the campaign, if possible)

Way to go!

I'm going to have to tell my players about GM's day.

And if they don't get me something, I'll send down another
12 troll were-rates. Maybe make one of them a half-red dragon
were-rat troll...

I expect I will get myself a bunch of things on sale from rpgnow.com. As I did for the last couple of years. Probably at least one monster book and one esd as well.

What am I doing for GM's Day? Probably nothing.

I'm sure none of my players are even aware of GM's day, and somehow I wouldn't feel quite right telling them "yeah there's this new holiday invented by some folks on the internet, and now you guys have to buy me some gaming stuff." Plus, March 4th happens to be the birthday of one of my players, so it'd be kind of a hostile takeover even if I did try to go for it.

Sorry to be a "wet blanket" as you say, but this really isn't my kind of thing.

No, no - fair enough. I'd never expect this sort of thing to be GM driven - GM's do all the work as it is, without spruiking the day as well! But if the idea becomes widespread enough then perhaps your players will hear about it without your prompting, and do something off their own bat. GM's deserve a little pat on the back now and again.

You could always treat yourself to something. Maybe buy yourself a little cupcake and put a candle in it! :)

Kind of tricky in my group as three out of five of us GM/DM on different games, so probably nothing.

We had that problem last year so we bought ourselves a battlemap. It gets used every session, no matter who is GMing, and has been a great investment.

I just got myself an early GM's Day Gift. "Everybody else" - a guide to everyday NPC's with stat blocks and so on. Hopefully it will save me some time. I reckon I spend more of my time building NPC's than actually writing the game!

Any other things like that out there - major time savers for the GM?
