GM's Day - what's the story?

So, I get the feeling that I've been living in the dungeons of Castle Greyhawk a bit too long: what's the story on GM's Day, when is/was it, and such? I vaguely recall hearing about it last year (I think?), but don't know anything about it otherwise.

Someone please fill me in on the "holiday's" origins, purpose (besides driving sales of d20 books ), and such.

Publishers get some sales at an otherwise slow time of year. GMs get a little appreciation. Players (and GMs) get some discounts on products if they so choose to take advantage of the sales. Everyone wins!

GM's day gifts don't have to stop with d20 books! My wife got me some Hirst Arts molds (I GM a game for her, and I'm getting her some new bowls and glasses (for hosting our Game Nights in style!)
