Gnome Hooked Hammer

OK, so what the heck does this thing look like? I've seen it depicted several ways:

1) A claw hammer, similar to the ones found in toolboxes all over the world

2) A hammer on one end of the shaft, a pointy sharp bit at the other end, perpendicular to the shaft

There is no "one" Gnome hooked hammer. One may look like a starhook with a mace head on it, while another would look like a morningstar with hooks, however all of them can function as a hammer or a "hook." In fact one of them is a grappling hook with a handle and one of the times was replaced by a hammer.

You know, I like that answer. It fits into the world of gnomes very well.

Since we're talking about a Gnome's hooked hammer in the context of D&D, I'd defer to the one depicted on page 120 of the 3.5E PHB as the typical sort. It is a normal light hammer at one end with a hook at the other. The hook is protruding at a 90 deg angle, near the handle end.

EDIT: I'm curious to see what a hooked sword looks like. Harley Stroh might know ...

I could see clans of gnomes arguing over what is the true hooked hammer. :)
That would be the hammer designed by the Swish Clan. Its "hook" is one of a number of specialised tools which can either fold from the head of the hammer or, more rarely, emerge by use of a button on the handle. Known by other clans as the Swish Army Hammer.

I go with the PHB look: longer handle with hammer on one end and pick on the other.

The weapon was actually the basis of the Gnome Combat Miner class I wrote oh so many moons ago for Counter Collection 2.

 As long as there is also a bottle/tin can opener in that hammer I am totally ok with that version.

Do a Google image search on "hook sword" and you'll find several examples. Also some things entirely unrelated, but that's what you have to expect with search engines.
