(Gnomish) Technomancer/TecnoWizard

Acmite

First Post
I'm thinking of playing a gnomish tecnowizard in an upcoming campaign. Other than the Gnomish Artificer (from Magic of Fearun), does anyone have any suggestions about how to go about this?

I'm thinking Rogue/Wizard +/- a level in Cleric, but I'd like to eventually go into an appropriate PrC. I don't like the gnome artificer PrC, but the concept is pretty close to dead on.

Any suggestions? Are there any other similar PrCs out there?

Yes, there is a techsmith class in faiths and pantheons. I like it pretty well, I have a player who is making a character to become one.

Well, it may not be useful to you, depending on how soon you want to do this, but we do have two prestige classes that focus on blending magic and technology in Steam-trains & Sorcery. They do (IMO of course) a better job of expressing the feeling of technology than the other available options at the moment. As for how to structure the character, you will need levels in gadgeteer if you go with either one, so either focus on technology skills like disable device and open lock and see if your DM will let you swap out some rogue levels when it comes out, or just stick with wizard until that point.

You might find it useful...

I wrote something up for a clockwork wizard pretty soon after 3e came out. While I wouldn't use it now, you might find it useful. It's available on my old campaign's web page. To get to it directly, point your browser to http://people.ku.edu/~dbrooks/adnd/bits/prestige.htm

Hope you can find something useful in it. It's a rather over-complicated treatment to what I'd do now, though as I recall the construct-creation rules did turn out pretty well. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm making this character for a campaign that's set to begin in the next week or so, which means Steam-trains & Sorcery will likely be too late. Plus, the setting is not an industrial one.

Can someone provide a rough sletch of the flavour and requirements of the Techsmith class from Faiths and Pantheons? I don't need the specifics, just a rough guide. Basically, I want to know if it's something I should even bother trying to follow up.

Thanks for the link SteelDraco. It's not quite what I'm looking for, but I do like it.

Any more suggestions?

I can definitely understand not wanting to wait, but I do want to quickly clear up one misconception. We are designing Steam-trains & Sorcery to be useful whether you have a whole campaign setting based off of it, or you just want to throw in a couple of elements (maybe a specific city of gnomes is much more technologically advanced than the rest of the world, and that is where the PC comes from, etc.)

Hope you enjoy the character.
