Goblins! Gobbledygook!

I haven't the faintest, my reasoning is that the bacteria release toxins which should the same as posions, but in the end it's the same effect.

Actually diseases last don't they? Your ill for a while. My understanding with food posioning and others (that don't paralyse/stop breathing/just really hurt) is you get sick and it should be over.

In short, I haven't the faintest.

Food poisoning is a misnomer. It is typically a bacterial infection... It would fall under the disease category, not poison.

• Run Away!: When a goblin runs away from immediate danger, he moves five times his normal speed rather than four times. A goblin with the Run feat can move six times his normal speed when running away. Goblins cannot use this racial ability when wearing Heavy armor.

Consider using something similar to the cheetah's Sprint ability...

Sprint (Ex): Once per hour, a cheetah can move ten times its normal speed (500 feet) when it makes a charge.

How about...

Run Away (Ex): Once per hour, a goblin can move ten times its normal speed (300 feet) when taking a withdraw action.

...or something similar.

... unless the food poisoning is due to a bacterially-produced toxin, like what botulinum produces, which will kill you even if you boil the food long enough to kill every last bacteria.

PS: However, it wouldn't hurt to extend the +2 bonus to poison AND disease.

I considered that, then didn't for no reason other than I didn't want to give them too much. In other words, I'd rather err on the side of a slightly-underpowered race than one that is too good. That said, I'll revisit this option; it certainly appeals.

Could you explain that a bit more? Is food poisoning a poison or a disease? Thanks!

It's a disease. It is caused by an infectious agent (the bacteria).

EDIT: Having read the rest of the thread, I am not so sure now!

FOOD POISONING
Food poisoning, a type of gastroenteritis (digestive tract inflammation) caused by eating contaminated food, results in severe abdominal cramps, repeated , and muscle weakness. These symptoms develop suddenly between three and 24 hours after the food is consumed.

That looks like a incubation period.

What causes it is bacteria. That we know. A Posion is a chemical. That also. The food posioning is from bacteria. These bacteria don't always cause trouble with toxins.

Some microbes, such as Staphylococcus, release toxins that inflame the stomach, causing nausea and vomiting. Salmonella bacteria (commonly found in raw eggs and shellfish, and responsible for many cases of food poisoning) act directly on the intestinal lining, causing painful cramping.

All bacteria cause diseases (AFAIR thats what set them out from other microbes). So It would be disease.

However there are ingested poisons that cause damage, like plants, but mainly (in the game) from assassins. So wether you want that as well is up to you.

Sorry for the lond post. Most of the stuff is probably not exact either.

(puts on his biology teachers hat)

Thats not entirely right. Bacteria are small onecellular organisms that are fundementally different from all other living creatures on earth, mostly due to the fact their DNA is simpler than other organisms.

They are found almost everywhere on earth, and without them life could not be sustained. Everywhere includes our digestive system. Roughly a third of your feaces concist of E.Coli bacteria that helps break down the food you eat.

So clearly not all bacteria are harbringers of disease. In the case of food poisoning it can originate from chemicals in the food that where released by bacteria or from ingesting bacteria.

In the first case the chemicals are poisoneous to us (that would be botulism for instance). This is a case of poisoning, that will either kill you or wear off by itself.

In the second case the bacteria either inhibits the digestive process (that will leave you feeling sick, or simply excretes chemicals that make you sick (an example would be Salmonella bacteria). In this case it actually a disease, and you need medical treatment.

(flings hat away)

In any case IMO the goblins should have both +2 versus poison and disease if they are to eat rotten food more safely than other races.
