God Calls

Hey Guys, thanks again for your support for making GM Hold Music so popular.
We are thinking of making a game accessory for pepople who use or may use divine interventions in those moments when a god hears a prayer. Basically I'm kinda taking a general interest poll to see if it's somehting folks would be into. Basically it's a CD with a reference guide for the GM to give him the details. Basically there are 30 or so audio tracks, pop it in the CD player and hit shuffle, and audio bit describing what happensa and you hear a Deity speak to the characters or all in the area. Effects range from benevolent temporary boosts, to unionized enforced break times and more. We're thinking of putting it in a DVD case or something with the booklet for the GM to look up the mechanic effects. There predominantly meant to be funny, and balanced, but there are going to be some very good and very bad results.

whatdaya think?

I doubt I would get it other than using it as a gag. "God calls" makes me think of answering machine messages for dieties. Now that is something I might pick up.

Divine intervention is by definition dm fiat; I don't really think it can be balanced (at least not as I see it).

I doubt whether I'd be interested for my dnd game, but if I played Hackmaster I'd be all over it. It just doesn't fit the style I run these days.

I don't like god calls, not so much for the deux ex machina aspect, but simply because a god is more likely to aid it's faithful. A wrenching appeal to one's diety in a difficult situation is not entirely an act of faith. Personally, if a character who has demonstrated a pattern of faith strides into the situation with the cool knowledge that he does it for his god, I would be more willing to aid the character with divine mojo.

Thanks for response

Thanks guys keep it coming.
KILMORE: there really arent bad effects necessarily, just one's with potential for DM messing with players who try to take too much advantage. for the most part they help the players get an out, but not always a wipe the field clean kind of effect.
