Gods and Pantheons

How important are gods in your campaign?

  • Extremely - The characters are gods themselves, with story arcs that involve other gods.

    Votes: 5 5.4%
  • Very - I have a detailed pantheon, and the gods interact with the PCs frequently.

    Votes: 16 17.2%
  • Fairly - Many adventures focus on religious themes, but the gods aren't NPCs per-se.

    Votes: 45 48.4%
  • Not Really - There might be a church or two, but for the most part the gods aren't seen or heard.

    Votes: 15 16.1%
  • Not At All: the gods are distant, have no churches, and have little concern for mortals.

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • Non-Existant - My game world does not have gods at all. Divine magic comes from somewhere else.

    Votes: 2 2.2%
  • Other (explain)

    Votes: 10 10.8%

I voted for fairly - but that was really because my desired option wasn't up there. I would have chosen:

VERY - Faith impacts morality/ethics considerably and churches/temples/healers/"faith-givers" are quite significant; yet, the dieties themselves do not interact with the world face-to-face very often.

So, a combination of the fairly and very options.

Actually, that is exactly what I was trying to find out. I wasn't too concerned about religion in the game, but how important the gods themselves were in the game. You should vote "not very."

Yeah, i can see your point with this, but I disagree.

Just because the god(desse)s don't interact doesn't mean they aren't important. There are more things to the presence of a god(dess) than physical presence.

If you want people to answer the question that I think you want to ask, try this approach:

Q: How often do gods make physical appearances in your game?

O1 - All the time: They walk the ground in the flesh, baby!
O2 - Spirit, but seldom flesh: They make appearances, but usually only in dreams and trances and the like.
O3 - Mystical Words: The deities make appearances when the PCs need to hear divine advice from the heavens.
O4 - Not at all: The gods are there, but they let the clerics walk the walk and talk the talk.

Extremely important, but not because of the power of PCs, but to do with the roll deities, churches and followers play, either in the campaign world or often in the party in general.

When a cleric, paladin or other divinely powered person is in a group they have a named deity and enthuse some of the dogma.
