Gold Wizards

Luthor Harkon

First Post
Hey every body I'm wanting to make a wizard like those from the gold order of magic (the alchemists) from Warhammer. These wizards deal in magic that is related to metals and alchemy such as turning lead to gold etc.
I was thinking of making him a transmuter wizard with maxed out alchemy ranks and maybe skill focus:alchemy.I also thought up a couple of new spells to suit this character and I'd like you to critique them for me.Are they too powerful, not powerful enough, not useful enough?
well here they are:

Curse of Lead
Transmutation
Level:Sor/Wiz 3
Components:V,S,M
Casting Time:1 action
Range:medium (100 ft+10ft/lvl)
Target:objects on one creature(see text)
Duration:1 min/lvl
Saving Throw:Fortitude negates(object)
Spell resistance:Yes

All metal objects on the target who fail their saving throw immediatly turn to lead for the duration of the spell. This doubles their weight.Weapons turned to lead suffer a -1 penalty to attack rolls and armour turned to lead reduces it's Max Dex to 0 and doubles it's armour penalty and spell failure.

Metal's bane
Transmutation
Level:Sor/Wiz 5
Components:V,S,M
Casting Time:1 action
Range:medium (100 ft+10ft/lvl)
Target:objects on one creature(see text)
Duration:instantaneous
Saving Throw:Fortitude negates(object)
Spell resistance:Yes

All metal objects carried by the target creature that fail their saving throw are immediatley didsintegrated as if they had been the target of a rust monsters antenae attack.

Well what are they like?Any comments appreciated

Lead weapons would be far less useful in combat that "-1". one strike against anything would render the weapon useless, and destroyed. Lead armor would be sliced to ribbons by any weapon with some weight to it... So, although you're lowering the level of this spell by making it non-permanant, its results would be. When your platemail turns back to steel, it's destroyed anyway- the same goes for a bent up sword...

the spells are a little too lowlevel for my tasts, and lower the duration to more like one round per level, so that the target may beable to enter combat before the encounter is over. This definately belongs in the House Rules thread.

Your idea is pretty cool, why don't you try making it into a PrC, it may be interesting
