Golem question

I'm not sure what context you mean by 'use magic items', but I'll take a swing.

Golems are mindless. As such, they cannot use any item that requires spell completion or command words, nor can they quaff potions.

They might be able to use magic items they can wear, such as rings and many wondrous items.

Because it is an immunity and not a spell resistance, the Golem cannot willingly lower or be commanded to allow spells to affect it. They simply do not work.

A golem would be able to benefit from a Gauntlet of Rust. Its Magic Immunity ability is effectively unbeatable SR vs. spells and Sp abilities except those mentioned as affecting it in the golem's description. So the Gauntlet should work fine.

I'd agree, it could use 'use - activated' items. ... ... I'm not 100% on that though. I'd go with the best argument, especially if someone can find a core quote to back them up.

All of the golem entries have the following text in their Immunity to Magic sections: "A _____ golem is immune to any spell or spell-like ability that allows spell resistance." This means that they are not immune to spell or spell-like abilities that do not allow SR, meaning that their Immunity to Magic abilities are almost identical to "SR Unbeatable" (though not exactly due to the individual exceptions). We also note that "A creature’s spell resistance never interferes with its own spells, items, or abilities." So, if a golem were outfitted with magical items, then it could possibly benefit from them.

Oh, and it seems like every iron golem out there should be outfitted with a gauntlet of rust, considering the low price with respect to the cost of the golem in the first place. :)

I agree.

Okay, fair enough. Here's another question: Since an iron golem arguably has a "gauntlet-shaped" hand/forearm, could one add the cost of creating a Gauntlet of Rust to the cost of creating a golem to integrate the enchantment into the golem's structure (i.e. imbue the golem itself with the effect of a Gauntlet of Rust and do away with the necessity of actually having to wear one)?

That's purely in house rule category, so it would depend on the DM.
