golems as good undead?

I don't like the standard MM golems. Most of their abilities just dont make much sense, like the haste/slow effects, the poision breath, et. al, or circumvent good systems we have in place for no apparent reason, like the spell immunities instead of SR. I also don't care for the berserk thing, though al least that has its roots in gentiles' golem horror stories, if not the original blood libel stuff.

So I'm reworking golems, and I get the idea: to reflect the golem's divine origin, why not have them like undead, but animated by positive, rather than negative energy? Thus rebuked by good clerics and turned by evil ones?

What do y'all think?

Well, D&D golems have been a staple (at least in common conception, even if not enforced in game mechanics) of arcane spellcasters (wizards).

well. I guess that's another problem I have with d&d golems. But in the traditional golem legends, golem creation is all about getting a bunch of wise men together and invoking the name of God. And I really like those legends and would prefer to keep their flavor as much as possible.

Then, no problem. You can indeed create this new kind of golems and call them divine golems (by opposition to standard D&D golems). Not a bad idea. But then again, they should probably be restricted to being made of clay -- but maybe in several sizes.
