Good 1st level modules

Gorgoldand's Gauntlet, by EN World's own Richards. It was in an early 3E Dungeon, came free as a pdf on a CD in Dungeon 87, and may be available out there - somewhere - as a pdf. It works pretty well as both an introduction to the game and a campaign.

While I also highly recommend NG's Crucible of Freya, one of my favorite 1st level adventures, though, was "Trouble at Grogs" from Dungeon #4, by Grant and David Boucher. Great stuff!
I will second "Trouble at Grogs". The little town with Half-Ogre Innkeepers was one of my favorites. The little town became the center of my player's activities. Loved it.

I enjoyed the following at low levels:

Death in Freeport
Nemoren's Vault
Of Sound Mind
Crucible of Freyja
Drow War: The Dying of the Light

To not play from the book I like the A Dozen XXXXXXX Rumors by Ronin Arts and the Rumors that have been available in the DM Idea Pipeline the last year and a half.

I suggest screwing modules. Go with custom adventurers. There easier to fit into your campaign (or even a published one) and they're much more gratifying. If you realy don't have the time to whip up adventurers then try to get some of Wizards. D&D Adventurers (a good site) has some good Adventurers and stuff to.

B1 In Search of the Unknown

T1 Village of Hommlet

U1 Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh

available cheap as pdfs from most places...

Mad God's Key by Jason Buhlman - Dungeon #114 (Greyhawk)

Raiders of Galath's Roost by Skip Williams - Dungeon #87 (Forgotten Realms)

Both excellent campaign starters.

I second Mad God's Key from Dungeon 114... this is a GREAT entry level adventure with the optimal mix of urban and dungeon adventuring.
