Good 1st lvl modules for new DMs?

My friend fustyWumpus just joined a 4e campaign, but the DM can't make it this weekend. My buddy or his wife (both fairly new GMs) are going to run instead. What recommendation do you guys have for a great 1st level adventure that they can run?

I have access to Dungeon, so Dungeon adventures are fine to include in ideas.

Thanks!

Update your paragon tier thread and we'll tell you. :p

Okay, so I'll tell you anyway. I'm assuming you're looking for something that can be fully run in a single session from the sounds of it? Given that my two recommendations would be Cross City Race and Dead by Dawn (both from Dungeon). I think Dead by Dawn might technically be 2nd level but it can probably work fairly well at 1st level too, perhaps some minor adjusting would be appropriate though. Off the top of my head though, everything else I can think of would be a multi-session adventure.

Hope that helps.

Just as soon as I'm not working 80 hour weeks. If it's any consolation, I've had to cancel the last two games, so nothing is getting missed. Well, nothing except for our play schedule. :D

Thanks for the advice!

Heh, I know the feeling, both the wife and I have been doing nearly the same (sadly at different workplaces), so I was just razzing ya.

And yes, cancelling the games is far worse than not updating the thread. :D

For some reason I have never played the kobold module/delve in the back of the DMG. It looks rather basic, but designed to give everyone a taste of the rules. Maybe add a few plot points at the start of the night- some roleplay with a loval lord or something.

You could get Keep on the Shadowfell from WOTC's site by going here:

Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Try DnD

It also has Khyber's Harvest, which I believe was the 2009 Free RPG day Module (Eberron), and the starter rules for when 4th edition came out.

If you want The Treasure of Talon Pass 2008 free RPG Day (Nentir Vale) you can get it here:
www.wizards.com/dnd/files/freerpgday.pdf with the maps at:
www.wizards.com/dnd/files/freerpgdaymap.pdf

The Bloodsand Arena 2010 free RPG Day (Dark Sun) is here:
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/FreeRPGDay.zip

Hope these help...
