When you DM a mid-to-high-level group and they start running into a whole bunch of things that really don't threaten them, how do you handle the combats?
Currently, I'm using dice for squibs.
Example:
Blue dice = enemy 6th-level fighters
Green dice = enemy 6th-level rogues,
Red dice = enemy 6th-level wizards
Fighters have 48 hit points.
Hit points:
01-08: die has 1 facing up
09-16: die has 2 facing up
17-24: die has 3 facing up
25-32: die has 4 facing up
33-40: die has 5 facing up
40-48: die has 6 facing up
So I end up with combats with a lot of dice in squares on the mat, and when a fireball comes in a bunch of 5's turn into 1's or 2's.
Anyone else have a good way to keep track of your masses of wimpy opponents? I'm not gonna buy a bunch of figurines with clickable bases or anything. I'm looking for cheap stuff I probably already have. I believe our arsenal has in the past consisted of pennies, glass beads, checkers pieces, or bottlecaps. Pennies are limiting, but you can have Tails-up indicate someone who is held, stunned, or otherwise incapacitated...
