Good DM screen, anyone?

So, I'm playing DnD 3.5. Does anyone ahve any recommendations for a good GM screen? Bonus points for cheapness and efficiency, but I'm not afraid to burn some cash for a vastly superior product.

Kingdoms of Kalamar screen is your only option, really... It's spectacular. I DM and I don't even bring the Player's Handbook or DMG to sessions anymore. It's all on the screen.

It has a slight learning curve, but it's worth it.

I haven't got the 3.5 edition yet, but did have vast use out of the 3.0. it was one of the few screens to actually have an xp chart on it! And of course there's that whole pizza matrix.

I really want one of these, but I'm hesitant because I bought three of the original screen (non-landscape), and under very light use the "hinge plastic" -- for lack of a better word -- cracked and split on all three. I tried to contact the company, but my emails were ignored.

Is the plastic between the panels of the landscape screen thick and sturdy?
I'm not sure Jeff. I've only had it about 4 months, and I don't always DM.

I will check when I get home and report back

Kalamar. There is no other.

Though I personally stick with the 3.0 version, because it does cover and concealment right, and I can't think of anything I am missing from 3.5.

I find I rarely use the charts on the screen, so durability and functionality are more important to me than content. That said, I tend to do one of two things:

- Use my old Call of Cthulhu 4-panel landscape screen. Depending on the way the table is set up, landscape is a great option. This screen has lasted me years, and it's very durable.

- Paperclip the 3.5 screen from Dragon to the 3.0 Forgotten Realms screen, with one panel not overlapping. This makes a 5-panel "portrait" orientation screen, and I get the two charts I actually use (weapons and actions) as well as plenty of real estate to clip other things to the inside. The 3.5 screen is a bit flimsy, but the FR one is great (neat art, too).

As much as I love the style and cool factor of the Kalamar screen (and I own the Hackmaster version), I can't imagine making use of the panels in play. Not to mention that I like to clip things to the screen, which is tough when you need to be able to transform it into Screentron. ;)

I love my 3.5 Kalamar DM screen! I don't run a Kalamar campaign either, even though I do own a lot of the books. I love the Atlas!

Well, I just checked my DM screen. And, drat!, one of the "hinges" has already started to rip. :(

That sucks. It's such a good idea, but I can't think of any cost-effective way to make it more durable.

Jeff

Clear heavy duty packing tape. Works wonders. Put it on as soon as you get it home. Or at least before you use it. I even did it to my Kalamar shield, because there are a few inner panels who's longevity I would worry about without the packing tape. Works well on my books and modules too.
