Good fighter/rogue class or prestige class?

DK

First Post
hi Guys!

Is there a good class or prestige class in the complete X series or in the player's handbook 2 for a fighter rogue multiclass character?

We are starting SCAP and one of my players wants to do this kind of character, although I think it's not such a great combo, so I was wondering if you had any ideas.

Thanks!

Honestly? Blackgaurd is a terrific fighter-rogue combination PrC.

Other than that? See if you can't get him a good varient ranger class. It sounds like what he wants to play is a DEX-based fighter with decent skill points.

If you are looking for a beefy sneak attacker, try the Unearthed Arcana variant (p. 58). They loose all the bonus feats for a fighter but gain sneak attack progression as the rogue. Personally, I think you are giving up too much for the Sneak Attack, but it would give you a d10 sneak attacker!

If you want a nimble fighter skill monkey who'd rather have feats over sneak attack, try the Unearthed Arcana Rogue Variant (p. 58 as well). It's essentially the opposite of what I just mentioned. You take a rogue, strip him of his sneak attack, and add in the fighter's bonus feats. So, it is a character with all the fighter bells and whistles, just no d10 hit die. They get a bunch of skill points, but no sneak attack. I like this variant much better - especially for skill junkies who either do ranged attack or mobility/spring attacking. This can be very useful. If the guy wants to be a serious skill junky, use the Unearthed Arcana rogue version and go into exemplar from Complete Adventurer. That works really well for characters who want to be okay in combat (or good in their niches like spring atacking or ranged weapon use) but focus on shinning in skill use.

Hope this helps.

Depending on what the player wants. For instance, if the player wants a roguish character with fighter feats, here are two options.

1) Rogue with the the Martial Rogue variant from Unearthed Arcana
2) Wildernes Rogue with Martial Rogue variant from Unearthed.

Well... in Strahad's RtToEE at the PbP forum, I'm playing a "Battledancer" (Fighter Variant made by myself).

D8
No Shield Proficiency
No Tower Shield Proficiency
No Medium Armor Proficiency
No Heavy Armor Proficiency
Sneak Attack +1d6 at level 3 and every three levels thereafter
4 skillpoints+Int
Tumble and Balance as class skills

Of course, it is a dexterous combatant, not so much a "fighter/rogue"
I've still got to see how he fares at combat

Fighter/Rogue PrCs:
Complete Warrior has the dagger classes and Tempest.
Complete Adventurer has the Dread Pirate
Secrets of Xen'drik has the Scorpian Wriath and some cool feats using exotic daggers and spiked chain.
DMG has the Duelist, Blackgaurd, Assassin and Shadowdancer.
Of course he could take the swashbuckler.

I'd have him peg down the kind of character he wants to play: Dex fighter with twf or combat reflexes, str based combat expercise chain or a ranged combatain.

Combos to be aware of: Spiked chain with trip and/or disarm. TWF + sneak and possibly throwning daggers with quick draw. A new feat in the PHB 2 that lets a person add 1/2 of their dex bonus to damage with a xbow and extends the range of their sneak attack with xbows from 30 ft. to 60 ft.

There's also Unfettered which has some rogue abilites.
Battle Dancer in Dragon Compendium is more like a chaotic monk but considering it can roll, kick and hit with monk power, it's a good "fighter/rogue" combo.
