Good internet resources on Old West (for a western game)?

Turanil

First Post
Well, I already had Savage Worlds that I thought would be perfect for a game with guns. Then, today I got Deadland Reloaded plus a set of pre-painted old west minis (by EM-4). I am really nterested in running some western-types adventures ala Clint Eastwood meets Darktower. However, reading at the Deadland Reloaded book, I thought the only map is really too succinct, and the setting description not very detailed. As such I think I will have to somewhat develop a setting of my own, and draw a couple of maps, at least to create a document for the players to read so they get the feel of the campaign.

So my question is, especially to you American gamers:
1) What cool stuff should I not miss to include in a western setting.
2) Do you know of good websites about the Old West and all that? (I tried to google, but it was a dismal failure, probably because I don't know which word to type to get interesting results.)

Thanks.

I've done a lot of western modules but have used mostly books. I picked up a great book about the old west last year at a yard sale that was published in 1887. I have often used "Wild West" Magazine. You should be able to find it at most large bookstores. A great gaming resource is the Sidewinder Recoiled rule book as it has lots of great charts and excepts from various western books.

Hum, no doubt this would be the ideal source, but I won't find it in Europe. Plus after having spent 60$ on Deadland Reloaded and a set of western minis, I don't want to spend more money, hence asking for websites URLs...

Specifically what type of western plotline are you planning to run? Are you going for historical based? Real historical non-playing-characters, those from popular fiction or all homebrew non-playing-characters?

This campaign will be The Good, The Bad & The Ugly set in Stephen King's Dark Tower world. There will be places and characters seen in "western spaghettis" movies (like Colonel Mortimer and the village of Tucum Cari). This won't be historical, there won't be historical figures, but I need to create some western ambiance anyway.

For plotline, as of now I can only think about exploring some old mine, fighting some moron rednecks and desperados, meeting with mysterious Sioux, and what not. But I need to find various ideas of what cool stuff could be done in a western setting. I need to find plans and maps of old ghost towns, etc.
