Good Online [Non-DDI] 4e Content?

Knightfall

World of Kulan DM
I've just started to get into 4th Edition D&D and would like to find out what exists online that ISN'T D&D Insider. I don't have the finances to to spend money on DDI. Plus, I'm not sure how deep I want to get into 4e.

Therefore, I'm looking for the best 4e compatible content from 3PPs that is free. Mainly, I'm looking for unique races, classes, paragon paths, epic destinies, and the like.

BTW, I am aware of the great content on Kobold Quarterly's website, so there is no need for anyone to suggest that site.

There is plenty of free stuff out there. From free campaigns at dndadventure.com, wizards.com, dmtools.org, dungeonmastering.com, etc to player made stuff on these forums in the 4e homebrew stuff. Just takes a little searching through the posts to find it here or googling specifically what you want and a lot of the google hits take you back here to enworld. Hope this helps you out!

I'm a fan of Goodman Games' 4e products, though YMMV. Unfortunately, it's not free. You can find everything from monster books to ritual books to new classes here.

I don't really know of any 4e-specific online content that's free. The only thing I can think of offhand is iplay4e.com, but that requires DDI. There's also the D&D 4e Combat Manager, but that's meant for running games, rather than being a source of content.

Hmm...

I am a big fan of Goodman Games 3e product line, so I know what they have for 4e. Blackdirge’s Dungeon Denizens is something I'll likely look for at my FLGS. I might look for Azagar’s Book of Rituals, as well. I haven't decided yet.

The thing I'm learning is that really good [original] online content for 4e is tough to come by. Of course, that might be due to the restrictions of the GSL. I cannot say since I'm new to 4e. (I'd been ignoring 4th Edition completely until Dark Sun was announced.)

I've already gone through the pre-DDI stuff from Wizards website but I tend to avoid WotC's forums. I have looked, a bit, through the 4e house rules forum here at EN World. I'm aware of the Jester's great monster thread but I haven't seen anything else there that has really grabbed my attention.

I will say that the cost of one month is somewhat less than a single book, will give you the ability to download all of the dungeon and dragon magazines issues, one month access to the compendium, and the ability to install the character builder and monster builder. At the end of the month, all you lose is the compendium access; the installation of the character builder and monster builder do not suddenly stop working and the pdfs of the magazines do not have any sort of lock on them. If you are looking to just sample a bit of 4e, a one month subscription is a great way to dip your toe into the water for a very reasonable price. I know its not free, but the price is really affordable.
