Good sources for animal stats?

Hello -- I thought the denizens of this forum might know the answer to a question I have. My preferred method of making monsters is to take an animal, humanoid, or vermin, and add templates and/or abilities as seem appropriate at the time. I've gamed for over 20 years, so all the old monsters are just kind of dull to me, so I make new and different ones.

However, the Monster Manual has a very limited selection of animals. Not complaining -- it's not their main focus. But it does make me run out of interesting base creatures pretty quickly.

So what I'm looking for is sources of good animal stats. Here, on PDF, in books, whatever. I'd prefer large chunks of animals, but if y'all could point me towards good single animals, I'll take those, too.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! My knowledge of the monster books/sources of d20 is almost zero. I've kept up on other aspects, but not this, so I'm a little lost lamb in the wilderness. :)

Looking for any particular animals?
Well, the platypus would be nice. :)

My biggest desire would be North American animals, either current or the ones the Amerinds killed off. Most classic D&D monsters are based on European, North African, and Middle Eastern animals. I'd like to do some different criters, with different animal bases.

Cyberzombie,

When I get around to the Australian animals in the Animal Archives series, I promise I'll throw in my version of the platypus.
:)
