Good Spells for Dragons?

You know what would be nasty? A Dragon Necromancer. And given its other abilities, it could be a Focused Specialist without any real fear of a "blind spot" or weakness in its overall capabilities.
As an alpha predator, it would have access to all kinds of bits it could use for creating animated minions...and if it had the Fell Animate Feat (Libris Mortis), anything it killed with a spell would rise again as a zombie.
Just try to sneak up on the lair of a creature with a small horde of unsleeping, undying, untiring watchmen.

Another thing to consider is the dragon's age. An older experienced dragon likely learned any foes able to bypass/defeat its many protective minions/hazards to become a threat would quickly dispel any prepared buffs. That being the case, it would have likely converted a portion of its hoard's value into some very interesting magical traps to buff itself and environs so the spell slots could be devoted to more immediate use spells.
ie: A black dragon's minions know from rumor/threat not to walk over a certain black rug spread out among the others in the hoard because their Master hired a mage several decades/centuries ago to enchant it so whenever touched, it detonates an acidic fireball. The magic resets after # rounds. He periodically triggers the effect to ensure its working and enjoy the effect, but its true purpose is to provide a target for snatched victims during combat.
Likewise, his appearent regeneration ability is similar slight-of-hand involving a certain tile enspelled with a cure wounds "trap" for whomever stands upon it.
Bottomline: not only is he bigger and stronger than the typical human, he's also very more cunning and had ample time to spot/correct potential problems with his lair to ensure his survival.
