D&D 5E Goodberry Rollover

Also if a player thinks he might be wasting a known spell slot, he might opt not to pick this spell (for a Ranger?).

Hunh? At the end of the day, you might as well expend all your remaining spell slots, unless you're seriously concerned that you might have an emergency during your overnight Long Rest.

If you are talking about spell *preparation*, then please use that term, for clarity.

The "Spirit of the Rules" compromise, proposed on Twitter, is that the Life cleric would create three additional berries per casting.

That's exactly how I rule it. It provides exactly as many HP of extra healing as casting any other 1st level healing spell does.

If that is using
DISCIPLE OF LIFE
Also starting at 1st level, your healing spells are more effective. Whenever you use a spell of 1st level or higher to restore hit points to a creature, the creature regains additional hit points equal to 2+ the spell's level.

I would check with individual DM's about that combining, I am a pretty lenient guy and usually side on the player's side when it comes to rules exploits and I think this is a stretch. The goodberry spell itself is not restoring the hit points, the spell creates magical berries that when someone uses an action to eat one they are healed. I think that is a pretty significant difference and wouldn't allow a single goodberry to heal 1+2+1= 4 h.p each.

The official clarification is that it works (http://www.sageadvice.eu/2014/09/11/discipline-of-goodberry/) but it may be one of those things that may not fly at your table so checking with your DM is a good idea, just like with any "well it works on paper but might be out-of-whack" combos. I'd allow it in a "normal" heroic game but have second thoughts if I was trying for gritty or low fantasy.

To each his own, to me it would the same as if the same character cleric(life)/druid cast conjure fey and produces a unicorn, I wouldn't let the unicorn's Healing Touch ability heal any extra h.p. Unicorn, magic berry either one is someone conjured that then uses or is used for an effect later.
