[Goodman/Blackdirge] Critter Cache II: Prehistoric Beasts released!

Critter Caches or other suggestions (can't remember your plans):

Birds/flying animals
Legendary animals/monsters (not really in line with the line?) from the real world
Tie critters to existing monsters somehow (frogs with bullywugs - or "frogmen")
Critters organized by terrain? (swamps, for example)?
Plant creatures

Good suggestions. I particularly like the legendary monsters idea; there are a lot of things you could do with that.

I want to do plant monsters, but I'm not sure if there's enough interest to warrant an entire Critter Cache on the subject. I might roll that into another larger release.

Thanks for the feedback.

My idea (it was something that I wanted to do, and even started, but I get stuck at one point)

"FRIEND FOLIO"

A collection of creatures, mostly humanoid, that could serve as societies in a campaign setting. Each race has a few suggested histories, niches, and variants. After that section, each one has some feats tailored for that race, as well as some equipment and magic items. They would also have any specific pack or riding animals that the race might use that's unique or special to that race. Finally, some "monster manual" stat blocks for other variations of the creature that you might encounter as a foe.

I know it sounds like a lot, but it's more designed as a series...

Plant creatures for my African-theme campaign would be good by me :)

What's missing...that creature I told you about earlier of course ;). In fact more ICe Age, extinct mammals would be good. Many can serve as normal animals in a fantasy world.

Are you planning on doing things like goblins, where you present a whole lot of alternative goblin stats? I have done a few things along this line and thought it might be viable. You know, creatures already in 4E, but a bunch of alternative stats, so every goblin caster is not a hexblade.

Cheers. C

Okay, it seems there is more interest in plant critters than I first thought. :)

Being a big paleontology buff, I'm quite familiar with the chalicotheres. I'm kind of kicking myself for not including an animal like that in the next Critter Cache.

You know, I'd love to do something like that, but the current GSL prohibits that kind of thing. However, a new series of Blackdyrge products will be making a 4E appearance in the near future, and they will feature something like what you describe above, but in a way that doesn't violate the GSL.
