Goodman Games Brings Best-Selling PDF "Beyond Monks: Art of the Fight" to Print

Hi Joseph,

Will the print edition be 3.5e compatible/revised, and is it d20 Modern compatible?

Thanks :)

It is fully 3.5 compatible. A good bit of the book (most of the feats) can be used with d20 Modern without alteration, but most of it, in particular the prestige classes, would need to be shoehorned a bit.

We like d20 Modern though, so there is a d20 modern appendix with two new advanced classes, three new feats, and a variant system for non-lethal combat.

From the press release:

Customers who already own the PDF edition will have
an "upgrade to print" option available.

......
From Goodman Games:

As for a PDF upgrade -- there will not be one; it will stay to the same.

I want to talk more about this because it is so cool.

We're going to retire the Beyond Monks PDF from RPG Now when the print version is released in July, and do not plan to release a PDF version of the revised and expanded print version.

The reason is that we feel Goodman Games and Chainmail Bikini Games have come up with a better alternative. Goodman Games has agreed to provide an $8.00 discount (the price of the PDF) off the retail price for those who bought the PDF on RPG Now if the printed book is bought directly from them. You can buy the PDF today and not "lose" that money when you buy the printed version.

Updating the PDF on RPGNow would undermine those sales, so we decided not to do it. We feel like the discount for the revised and expanded print product is what most PDF customers would want, and is a better deal for the customers who made the print book possible.

Personally, I hope other PDF and print publishers copy us. "PDF First" (tm) is our process: Chainmail Bikini Games plans to continue publishing quality products via PDF with our first run, then print revised and expanded products with a discount for our PDF customers. That way, you can get first run products sooner via PDF, but do not have to pay full price for expanded and revised print products that benefitted from your feedback and initial investment.

Oh, and while it may take us some time to produce more than a couple of products a year, we'll get there. We're just getting started... :)

Congrats on the partnership! This sounds very cool & will probably be my first Goodman Games purchase. I have been interested in some of GG's titles before, but the books were too small ( short ) & pricey for me. I probably would have bought the Aerial Series if it was in one book for less total $...

:)

YEAH!!!!!!

Bigger, Better, Faster Punches and Higher Kicks!!!!

The only choice is whether to use your new improved powers for good or for awesome.

Actually, this is identical to the deal we offered for Librum Equitis volume 1 through Mystic Eye Games. Well done and congrats!

Cool. Good to see we're not the only ones. I wasn't even aware that we were, in fact, copying you. And thanks!
