My writing partner and I have a great idea that we're ready to submit. Is there a particular format in which to submit the product concept? Is a Word document OK, or would you prefer a PDF, or something else?
Well, I don't doubt that they're decent chaps, but I can report that they don't answer e-mails. Submitted stuff to them eons ago and they never bothered to respond. I didn't expect any different, since I've dealt with the publishing world before , but please don't go into this with unrealistic expectations.
In short, don't get mad if they never respond to you. It's just standard publisher stuff -- if they don't want your idea, it's straight to the trash with no 'reply' button pressed.
I've never had any trouble getting ahold of Goodman Games. However - he is swamped right now. An open call like this can generate hundreds or thousands of email messages. Despite their high ranking in this business, Goodman Games' heart and soul is one person, Joseph Goodman, and I imagine all the email goes through him.
Goodman Games has an excellent message board. Joseph might still be too busy to chat, but you can almost be certain to get the attention of other employees. There is at least one thread about the open call already but no real information in it yet.
Rather than answer hundreds of messages, I imagine they will send out a generic responce to everyone who did not get accepted, when they finish the selection process. It has been a while, headed towards 3 months, but big publishers take longer. Six months is not unreasonable for submissions.
Also, everyone is holding their breath on the new GSL. That could also be the hold up.
