Google blogger: 'I was terminated'

I have been hearing more and more about this...now companies are canning you for reasons of if it doesn't match the company's train of thought.

Blog of out a job.

Is this a personal free speech infringement?

Second, DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A POLICTICAL RANT....*ahem* Thank you.

Your thoughts on this matter.

I dunno. I don't know that I would feel all that compelled to keep an employee that was badmouthing my company. I want someone who is going to work within the system to fix problems rather than just vent to the world. But then ... I don't truly get blogging (or certain types of blogs I guess) ... why would I want the world to know my personal situation, personal thoughts, etc.

Yup.

Yup.

Free speech doesn't mean you can just say anything without consequence(s).

Yup

You can say what you want. You can employ or NOT employ whoever you want.

These things are also true of your boss.

If the first part of your post means that this is true for everyone, I'm not sure if there is some additonal purpose behind adding "These things are also true of your boss." as that is implied from the first part of your post. Anyway, I am my boss.

To add insult to injury, if you are going to be publicly critical of your company...your first week working there is not the time to do it. Employees who have been around awhile are likely to get a bit of leeway, but to go in and start popping off your mouth from the get go is a sure way to get canned.

Now the company in Michigan that fired it's employees that were unable to quit smoking is another kettle of fish in my book.

I believe he was just further clarifying his agreement with yout point of view Mark. :)

Sorry, I was agreeing with you and expanding, not intending to point a comment at you.

Anyway, the second part SHOULD be redundant, as you suggest. The sad truth is that many people get quite annoyed by the thought that other people actually have the same rights as they have.

Can you imagine if someone were hired by some company and then on their off hours stood out in the parkling lot or on the sidewalk and ranted to everyone that would pass by?

Ehh... its pretty close to the same.
One person has the right to smoke and another person has the right to elect to not enter into (or maintain) a voluntary business agreement with them.

I kinda thought you didn't mean "me" specifically with that "you" but I wanted to be sure I hadn't hit a nerve with what I had said, and that I took the time to expand on what I meant if I needed to explain it further. Thanks for clearing that up.
