Google killing Google Reader

Effective 1 July, Google is shutting down Google Reader.

Waah! I've become very attached to GR. Can anyone else recommend me an uncluttered, user-friendly RSS aggregator as a replacement?

There is much anger over this.

I use Google Reader almost constantly for keeping track of things.

Any replacement should have as near to the same functionality - if not better - than Reader currently does. Your suggested replacement does no good if it limits it's "free" version to a specific number of feeds, because I can guarantee my own personal usage will exceed the number of feeds allowed. suggested replacements should also allow importing of feed information from Google Reader with as little hassle as possible. If I have to rebuild the damned thing by hand I'll be ages doing it.

Today I am not Google's friend.

Ars Technica has been covering this and is currently running a poll on options. There are a lot of us that are upset. (Apparently not enough to matter, though.) All the web-based alternatives are currently down due to the load of folks checking them out. I'm thinking it'll be time to check things out in a week or so.

Yeah I'm quite amazed that they're killing it. I hope whatever other service out there works with Flipboard.

The sheer number of users isn't really the issue. The issue is, as always in business, how does Google make money from it? It isn't like they exist to provide us with free functionality - someone has to pay for it. If it didn't pay enough for the resources allocated to keep it up, then it goes away. Simple enough business decision.
