But Google already explained (I've read the explanation even before the news!) that it's an artefact of the sonar ships - it's the path of the ship.

Um, anybody else think it was funny that they said the marks were spotted on the Abyssal Plane?

Situated in an area called the Madeira Abyssal Plane, the grid was spotted by aeronautical engineer Bernie Bamford as he browsed through Google Ocean.
