Gord the Rogue is back!

But I'll cheerfully reread the first few books over again :)

Yeah, how many books out there begin with the hero fighting a wharf rat with a broken butcher knife in a back alley, over a piece of rotten cheese... and LOSING to the wharf rat? :) I loved that series, it was one of the greater "zero to hero" books out there.

I was under the impression that the Gord series (at least the first two) were "real" stories of a campaign played/DMed by Gygax. I got this idea from the note at the beginning of the books that "this is based on a campaign run by the author for over a decade" (or something to that effect).

I have read mention lately that this is not true -- that Gord and all the happenings in the books were completely made up just for the book. Is this true? Does anyone here know, or should I ask this in the Gygax thread? (Don't want to ask the same question again if he's already answered it.)

I don't know, but I believe that Gord was never played as a PC, by Gygax or otherwise, is correct. The whole "based on a campaign" may have been that it was based on his version of Greyhawk, which Gary's said before is somewhat different from the version he turned in to TSR (less polished, etc.)

It wouldn't hurt to repost the question, because I'm pretty sure it's not in the new thread - you can ask, and just ask if Gary can confirm it, or if anyone else can.

Re-reading the archived threads is worthwhile. Especially the first 3 or 4. Lots of interesting AD&D "history" talked about in fair detail.
