Gormenghast

I love EN World. The project I'm working on, while not primarily inspired by Gormenghast, has elements that were strongly influenced by my perception of it (and similar "flavored" resources) . A group of major villains (The Strangers) were influenced by Gormenghast. I saw the series on BBC America, and felt that it absolutely needed to be brought to the game table in some form. Wow, you stay here long enough, and you see all of your influences laid out in front of you...

I'm pretty sure that Tad Williams put a direct homage to it in his Otherland series (the part where they wander through the house in book 2 or 3, can't remember which...) and an indirect one in Memory, Sorrow and Thorn, his castle descriptions really gave me the impression of Gormenghast.

*returns Scraggoth's high-five*

I watched the entire I, Claudius on video over the course of one weekend. And it was worth it.

Tad Williams was actually under consideration to write the screenplay for the BBC prod., but for some reason they gave it to Malcolm McKay instead.

He was certainly influenced by Peake, and both the House in Otherland and the Hayholt in MS&T are direct references, by his own admission.

Let me see if I can pull up some posts:

Tad on what could have happened if Peake spawned the imitators instead of Tolkien

And House (from OL) was actually going to be an online RPG at first:
