Psionics throughout the history of D&D has always shared back-alley space, the dregs of recongition with gamers everywhere. Always in the Appendices, always last class book to come out, always last on the power totem pole...

...until the Expanded Psionics Handbook was released. Once again, we lovers of Psionic characters could hold our heads high, psions being given the proper power level on the totem pole! We rejoiced! We sang, we cheered Ialdabode, we cheered Ma'Varkith, we cheered Alexandra...

WAITAMINIT - Ragnara? Rurik? Mitra? What in the name of the great Gith is going on here??? Our imposing icons of mental mastery over the mundanities of magic have been manhandled! Our Peerless powerhouses have been Pedestrianized!

Henceforth, Gamers Opposed to the Renaming of Psions (G.O.R.P.) is officially active! I charter his organization in a bold bid to restore the proper monikers to our beloved iconic Ma'Varkith, Alexandra, and Kazak! Sandbarrow is new, he can stay; he has not (yet) been humiliated in such a namechange, as are Xerxes the Soulknife and others.

What's next? Will we one day purchase 4th Edition, and find a shining Image of Tordek saying, "Flibdooldrub the Dwarf Politician looks on stalwartly while guarding a Dwarven Hold?" or perhaps a depiction of Regdar and Lidda with the words, "Thag the Ranger and Semolina the Scout investigate an underground lair"? When will the madness end?

NOW, I must say! Let us end the tragedy! End the senseless humiliation of Iconics in Psionics!

Hey! You with the XPH! Over here!
Turn around, look at me, I said NOW, not next week!~

(To the rest of you: Thank you for your time.)

I don't own the XHP but that's fascinating to hear that they would change the names of these characters. I suspect they thought the original names were too "unusual" and needed to bring it back "on level".

I completely understand your gripe. I know you're being tongue-in-cheek about it too.

I discussed something like this in a previous thread: adhering to "tradition" (ie. what's come before) vs. changing something for a new "look" or "balance". Sadly, no one took me seriously and I was lynched.:(

Anyway, I do own the Psionics Handbook and would be outraged to see these characters' names changed. Count me in!;)

Pcat, you may mock Sandbarrow's ludicrous helmet if you wish. You even have leave to deride that cruise missile he calls a sword, as well - I'm feeling generous. :)

What makes you think i'm tongue-in-cheek, dead? The preposterous persecution of these percipient potentates should not continue. Thank you for your support in this matter!

Hmm. Perhaps I should have called it S.H.I.P. (senseless humiliation of Iconic Psionics) instead; it would have tied in well with the images about "are you on board with it?" and "the SHIP has hit the fanbase."

King Henry, are you yanking my crank? Did they really change the names of Ma'Varkith, Alexandra, and Kazak?

I don't own the XHP, so I'm at your mercy on this one. :)

You don't have many new members of G.O.R.P.

Perhaps everybody thinks it's GURPs 4th edition you're talking about and won't go near it with a 10-foot pole. ;)

They really did, Dead. Isn't that odd? I have no idea why!

Incidentally, although I know you got off to a rocky start in a couple of threads, I've got to say that's it's great having you post here. Your threads are interesting, it sounds like you have an unusual and fun game, and you have a sense of humor. Good qualities, those. :D
