Got Scythe?

IMC, whenever the PCs have considered a Coup de Grace, it's been in situations where time is not critical. There's no need for a scythe; if the first CDG fails, they can just do another one.

Summon a cat to do it. CdG'ed to death, two hit points at a time....

Many of my characters regularly carry around a x4 crit. weapon...but in all honesty, it hasn't been crucial. CDGs are deadly with almost any weapon when you take into account the high DC Fort. save opponents have to make even if they survive the initial damage.

Now, carrying around an extra Chain Shirt to sleep in instead of a character's normal heavy armour, that's a different story... :)

What kind of game do ya'll run? In my campaign, CDG is a rare event that is used by enemies more often than players. Players hardly ever have any reason to use a CDG.

I'd use a heavy pick rather than a light one; the difference between 4d4 and 4d6 might not be that big, but it's there.

Even carrying an M weapon solely for the purpose of the CDGing people is too weird for me.

When playing, all my backup weapon are always Small so I can use them if grappled.

imagine this

Ftr 4/Cleric 6
BAB +8/+3
20 Strength (+5)

Melee +10/+5
4d4+7+2 (+5x1.5)

Feats
Level 1 - Fighter
Weapon Focus (Scythe), Power Attack, Expertise

Level 2 - Fighter
Cleave

Level 3 - Fighter
Combat Reflex

Level 4 - Fighter
Weapon Specialization (Scythe), Stat Increase (Str)

Level 5 - Cleric
N/A

Level 6 - Cleric
Greater Cleave

Level 7 - Cleric
N/A

Level 8 - Cleric
Stat Increase (Str)

Level 9 - Cleric
Improved Crit

Level 10 - Cleric
N/A

ok ... now according to table 2-24 for the DMG a 10th level character is now 49,000.

Now we make a scythe (this is a random Neutral guy so YMMV).

Scythe is +318. We'll make it a +1 Scythe
Keen adds +1
Mighty Cleaving adds +1

So now its an equivilant to a +3 weapon. Well +3 is 18,000 and add the Scythe is +318 so total right now is 18,318.

He now has 30,682 to spend. Give him some armor and some natural armor and BAM ... Super Necro!!!

And here I thought me and the dwarven cleric were the only ones! We shared a magic chain shirt to sleep in (one on watch one asleep). Sure takes a long time to put on that Full plate when something attacks in the night.

As far as a good CDG weapon, my double axe always worked good, but like was said earlier it only seemed to ever come up when time didnt matter much (foe KO'd, held at end of fight etc.), though the traitor of the party did get a CDG mid combat in the final battle of the campaign from the dwarf for betraying us. And survived the first round (damn 20's). All it took was another hit from the ole warhammer to finish him off though (I think the DC was in the low 30s).
