Grandfather smackdown

abri

Mad Scientist
Ok, just kidding.
But my character tend to look like a grand father, due to his stats.
We're playing in a semi-historic campaign (Novgorod campaign, as in dragon magazine, very low magic setting, very low powered) and I'm kind of the only mage in the neighbourhood, so no much chance of me scribing spells from defeated wizard.
So any piece of advice on what spells/feats/ magic items/skills, to take or make? And equipment I might find useful. Especially with such stats...

Necromancer 3 (shooting for Spectral loremaster, so NG).
Str:5
Dex:14
Con:7
Int:18
Wis:18
Cha:17
(yeap, a bit lucky on my rolls).
Feats: Will over matter (allows to use Int instead of Con at first level for HP, +1 HP for each metamagic feat), spell focus necromancy, cratf wondrous items.
Spells: 2)Phantom's howl, false life.
1)shield, hypnosis, chill blood, chill touch, summon undead I, expeditious retreat (most used spells :) ), magic weapon...
HP:10

I also have a big Hawk (Str 12) as a familliar (he can carry more than me!), he ends up fighting for me even if it's risky.

Where'S that chill blood from again? Read it somewhere but don't recall....

A real nice character. Why fighting if you can help it? Think about developing Disappear from Rituals&Relics at next level... makes you invis for two rounds.

You definately need to use magic to offset your weaknesses - specifically strength and con.

Items that boost those two stats would be a big help - con is more important, of course, because it more directly affects survivability.

Also, with such a low strength, items that help carry things are good, too - portable hole, etc.

Chill blood is from Mongoose's book on necromancy (1d4+level damage, ref save for half, if failed the victim is stunned for 1 round) and is a real lifesaver.
I took illusion as opposed school, so can't learn disappear or invis... The character is more of an detective, solving mysteries and trying to be diplomatic. But in our group of 5 we have 2 ranger and one fighter and they tend to be psychopath, so I'm kind of pushed into fighting. That's why I started taking some attack spells...
BTW, I'm planning on taking leadership at L6, what cohort would be more helpful for him?

What is this feat from?
It seems horrendously unbalancing (compare it to Toughness) and it doesn't make sense besides.
Shouldn't it be Wisdom, if it's "Will over Matter"?

FRCS. It's called "Mind Over Body", IIRC.

How is the Mongoose book on Necromancy, anyway? And what's the title?

I ask because I have *two* necromancers in my current campaign -- a wizard necromantic specialist of 3rd level (almost 4th), and a 4th level cleric who also wants to focus on necromancy.

Does the book have interesting Stuff for both arcane and divine necromancers? Are the spells balanced? Etc., etc., and etc. . . . The wiz necromancer in the campaign is a bit underpowered compared to the other characters, and it wouldn't hurt if I could find a few new spells that might interest him/bring him level with the others.

TIA!

A wizard necromancer of lower level than the cleric necro? He'll never catch up! If the cleric was a full level lower, maybe they'd be balanced... maybe.

And it only counts at first level...
