Graphics Card Recommendation

Is there any good 3D video card that works on 4x AGP slot? Got a 2-year-old PC that uses (discontinued?) PC800 memory modules.
Some of the new cards will adjust and work on a 4x slot, they don't run as fast but will still work, check the specs before you buy. There are also lots of older cards out there that you can get real cheap now (what onece was a top of the line $400 GeForce 4 card is now a $75 bargan bin item, but it is still a very good card.)

Considering that I'm still using a 32MB GeForce 2 card, it would be a big step up to GeForce 4 (despite better praise for GeForce 3).

But I was hoping for the bigger GeForce FX, if the price is reasonable. I'd like to do more upgrade, but you can only do so much on an 850 chipset motherboard. :(

My experience with newegg.com has been VERY positive as well. Highly recommended!

newegg.com is top notch, I also recommend zipzoomfly.com (used to be googlegear.com) the service/prices are comparable and the shipping is usually free 2nd day.

Actually in most of the recent benchmarks and tests (see anandtech.com and tomshardware.com), the GeForce 4 Ti4600, has been out performing the GeForce FX.

You can get a stock Radeon 9800 (not pro) 128 for $145. Hit pricewatch.com and look at the video cards. I promise you'll get the best deal out there.

More accurately, a Ti4600 is faster than an FX5200 Ultra almost all the time, is competitive with an FX 5600 quite often, and is sometimes competitive with an FX5600 Ultra. It's never faster than an FX5700, FX5800, FX5900, or FX5950.

I've been looking for a new card as well, and for now I have settled on the ATI 9600XT. It's midway in performance between the GFX 5600 and the 9800 Pro/GFX 5900U, and its also fairly cheap.

However, I will need to change my mobo (Athlon Thunderbird 1400). Is there a chart somewhere that indicates what CPU is needed for what card to get the most out of it?

I found out to my woe that the ti 4600 is indeed faster than both FX5600's especially in non DirectX 9 games. (sigh) Thanks nvidia

Interesting article about naming and numbering of new ATI and Nvidia card here btw..

Now, the tricky part if finding the TI series for GeForce 4. All I find is MX series, up the wazoos.
yea you don't want a MX series one, you'd be better off with a GeForce 3 TI card than a GeForce 4 MX card.
