Grappling Travelling Clerics

I don't like to differ between an ability that does the same as a spell and the spell.

Don't forget that the part about grappling was added afterwards. Easy to imagine that they simply forgot it in the Travel domain power.

Yes, the power is strong. Yes, the domain list is strong. But it's still a standard action to activate that provokes AoOs and the duration is not as long as the spell.

Grappling clerics? Doesn't the opposition have more important fish to grapple? Seriously, I have a guy playing a cleric with the Travel domain. I can't say I see him dominating the game through escaping grapples.

We play 3.0, and we have always played that freedom of movement prevented grappling. I don't see it as a big hastle.

SRD:

Granted Powers: For a total time per day of 1 round per cleric level you possess, you can act normally regardless of magical effects that impede movement as if you were affected by the spell freedom of movement. This effect occurs automatically as soon as it applies, lasts until it runs out or is no longer needed, and can operate multiple times per day (up to the total daily limit of rounds).
This granted power is a supernatural ability.

I do not think that it would provoke an AoO... From what I can tell it just starts to work when needed, no action required by the cleric to be used.

SRD:
Supernatural Abilities: Using a supernatural ability is usually a standard action (unless defined otherwise by the ability’s description). Its use cannot be disrupted, does not require concentration, and does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

I was wrong about the AoO. But why does everyone seem to think this is a free action???

Because it doesn't say you can cast FoM on yourself, or that you can use FoM as a Su ability. It says that you can move as if affected by FoM.

When the conditions are right, you act as if the spell had already been cast on you. There's no action to activate required.
