any suggestions besides ranged attacks on how to deal with a wizard that plops this down right on top of a group of mobs from a dm's perspective? I have a wizard in my group now and I have to readjust my tactics a bit due to his controlling abilities.

That's pretty much what a Controller is supposed to do: make your encounter into his encounter: thanks for showing up, please take a number, we'll kill you shortly.

Grasp of the Grave is a Daily power, so he shouldn't be busting it out more than once every four encounters (or so). When he does, it should make a huge difference in the fight -- that's what Wizard daily powers are like, in general.

Anyway, the standard anti-Wizard tactic holds across all editions: do not bunch up. If you assume "fireball formation", expect to be targeted by some area nastiness.

PS: Of course, if you don't bunch up, expect to be targeted by some Striker nastiness... PCs are just nasty all around!

ya i gotcha on the daily thing. The group im runnning was mainly all strikers / healer. Now one switched to the controller and i read his powers ahead of time, but not until we played did i see the power of the daily. Im coming up with some creative ideas but, just was hoping to hear someting i havent thought of yet.

In general, the creatures want to leave the zone. Yes, even if it takes OAs to do so, even if it means they don't attack that turn due to daze. Creative charges are generally worthwhile there.

Honestly? I think Grasp of the Grave is broken. There was a thread on it not too long ago... I've seen it in action, and nothing else of its level is even close to it.

If it targeted all creatures, rather than just enemies, it would still be powerful, but manageable. Or if it didn't auto-daze in the zone.

As for my own games, it's one of the very few things (along with a few magic items) which I've banned. There are plently of other good Wizard powers of that level that I don't want to bother with this one in particular.

This power needs to be eratted or moved to paragon level, I've considerd house ruling it to an attack role. Vrs auto.
