Grease bombs

I can't have been the only one to think of this, right? Make "potions of grease" or whatever you want to call them, to throw in front of charging enemies, or down ladders, or whatnot. Only 50 gp a shot, for a REALLY effective item.

In theory you can make such an item ... would be similar in concept to the tanglefoot bag (which emulates Entagle quite well).

You would follow all rules for area of affect missiles etc.

Grease bombs, sleeping dust (sleep), firebombs (fireball), essence of dispeling (area dispel at CL5 -- surprisingly useful, especially en-mass), fairydust (glitterdust), mist essence (fog cloud), stunstone (daze), etc., etc...

Never underestimate your players' creativity, if you let them.

Also, there's a feat that doubles the area of spells, isn't there? How would an even greasier grease bomb work with that, so that you can grease up more? In terms of prices, I mean.

In a low magic game I am allowing a player to buy/make an alchemical item that is much like a tanglefoot bag in reverse, effects one square but other wise as grease. The idea is to get the vicitm to fail a Balance check and this loose their Dex bonus for a round so as to all ow the rogue to sneak attack.

WIDEN SPELL [METAMAGIC]
Benefit: You can alter a burst, emanation, line, or spread shaped spell to increase its area. Any numeric measurements of the spell’s area increase by 100%. A widened spell uses up a spell slot three levels higher than the spell’s actual level. Spells that do not have an area of one of these four sorts are not affected by this feat.

At +3 levels, it would cost 1400 gp / bomb. I wouldn't consider it worth it, especially since you could always 'dual throw' two 1st level grease bombs (you suffer massive penalities to the the attack roll, but it won't matter for a grease bomb!)

Youch. Not worth it at all.

Though, at least I get the (very obvious, that I feel stupid for overlooking) answer to how to apply metamagic feats to wondrous items.
