Great Dungeon Map

Obergnom

First Post
I currently got some time as a player (yeah, first time since 4e release) and while I love it, I want to start designing a dungeon. Or rather, filling one with monsters.

Are there any great dungeon maps I could use? I would love to be able to print the whole thing out and just use it as map. That would be great!

I am not so much looking for a huge number of rooms on a more or less abstract map, if got enough of those but rather something more detailed. Something so detailed I can use it as encounter inspiration.

Great thing about maps is they can be used with any game system. There are several threads around here that cover maps as well as there are many sites dedicated to collecting or helping find them. You could try a Google search for dungeon maps and I'm sure you'll find a lot as well as images. There are also dungeon map makers that do everything from generating maps for you to helping you design your own. Unfortunately I'm at work so can't be a little more helpful, but I'm sure someone will be a long soon who'll post desired links for what I've mentioned if not more. Enjoy!

I got this dungeon battlemat recently, and was pretty happy with it:

It gives you two heavily detailed dungeon levels, enough for a roughly 10-encounter dungeon. Passages are mostly 5', but there are several different paths so monsters & PCs can maneuver round behind each other. Only thing I didn't like was that Level 1 has 3 stairs down plus a pit, while level 2 has only 1 stairway up, but you can solve that with a single connecting hall/sub-level between the two.

Have you tried using it with 4e? The passages seem rather narrow.

Like I said, they're 5'/1 square passages, but there are lots of 'loops' that allow for tactical maneuvering. When I run this kind of dungeon I tend to use several rooms as a single encounter zone; and most of the rooms themselves are a decent size. I'm thinking it would make a good dungeon for duergar or other smaller creatures, anyway. :)

Were you looking primarily for maps created for use with miniatures? or just dungeon maps in general?

I created a bunch of geomorph style dungeons last year (that I also attempted to blow up to 'battlemat' scale) which can be found here:
generic_dungeons
...though I wouldn't call them 'great'.

I also drew a Moria-style dungeon a few years back, which can still be accessed here:

...though they are not available at a 'battlemat' scale ...but they do have more details/furnishings.

Small dungeon maps? From a recent blog post of mine:

And of course the contestants of the One Page Dungeon Contest 2009.

Is it too cheesy if I also mention the new One Page Dungeon Contest 2010? :) No maps, yet, unfortunately!

The Moria Map fits what I am looking for. And it looks really nice, btw! I'm basically looking for a big dungeon map with enough detail for a 4e dungeon crawl style game in miniature scale, so I can print it and use it as battle map.

Something like this Dungeon of Terror: Virtual Boxed Set© - 0one Games | EN World PDF Store, but more colorful :)

I thought about this some more, maybe I will use an older map as inspiration and try to recreate it with dungeon tiles which I could tape to some card board.
